ROCK ‘N ROLLOVER
The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) hosts one large fundraising event annually to assist in raising the $2.2 million that it takes to provide high quality services and compassion to over 8,000 homeless pets. The event, dubbed ‘Rock ‘N Roll Over’ takes place at the Hard Rock Casino, Biloxi, with growing attendance and success each year. Supporters, donors, friends and family are invited to enjoy a night of entertainment, including live music, a silent auction, and huge on stage adoption event featuring live adoptable cats and dogs presented by local celebrities.
Every year, the event gets a fresh look (and sometimes a decade or theme). In 2016, we decided to strip it down to purely rock ‘n roll – and the mission. Using the organization’s colors, I started by creating the two prominent logos – one featuring a dog and the other a cat, “pitting” them against each other in a rock-n-roll-infused battle that’s often highly (though playfully) debated in the animal welfare industry: the dog people vs. the cat people. Surrounding these battling rockers is heavy, dynamic typography, accented with lines and a signature bolt of lightning.
