The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state of Mississippi. Because HSSM is an open-admissions shelter and turns no pet away based on health, age, or behavioral status, the organization’s open-admissions status in a community with a disproportionately high number of homeless pets leads to needless euthanasia of adoptable pets.

One of my main duties as the Marketing Specialist at HSSM was to work closely with the Adoption and Animal Care managers to create weekly adoption specials in order to encourage community members to adopt and foster pets in need. These specials were often created on short-notice, and included printable flyers, social media & email campaigns, press releases, and of course, animal puns.
